Senior Payroll Officer

The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for overseeing the delivery and processing of multiple payrolls for Decora and other Mzuri Group companies, managing the workload of the payroll team to ensure an efficient, accurate and proactive service.

Working hours: Monday – Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm, Friday 8.30am to 2.00pm (37.5 hours per week)

Location: Lisburn, BT28 (office based)

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Overseeing the delivery, processing and approval of weekly and monthly payroll for Decora and other Mzuri Group companies.
  • Managing the workload of the payroll department to ensure tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Undertake projects to review payroll systems, controls and processes, presenting opportunities for and continuous improvements, streamlining and cost savings to the HR Director and implement accordingly.
  • Work with HR Management to co-ordinate and implement Group Payroll services across the Mzuri Group.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring annual tasks including life assurance and healthcash plan renewals, PAYE settlement, P11d submissions, salary reviews and annual leave entitlements are completed.
  • Oversee the set up of payroll for other Mzuri Group companies as new acquisitions and / or centralisation of payroll processes occur.
  • Liaising with 3rd party payroll, insurance brokers, healthcash plan and pension providers, acting as the main point of contact for escalation of issues and queries.
  • Manage the payroll inbox, ensuring queries are responded to and resolution provided in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Decora and the wider Mzuri Finance teams are provided with payroll reports for month end reconciliations.
  • Provide payroll data to external bodies including auditors and insurers when required.
  • Oversee employer obligations in relation to pensions and statutory payments e.g. sickness, SMP and SPP are completed.
  • Liaise closely with the Payroll Officer and the wider HR team to ensure payroll related administration throughout the full employee life cycle are completed e.g. new starter processes, statutory payments, annual leave and leaver processes.
  • Ensure the administration of the Time & Attendance System is completed accurately e.g. absence reporting, shift schedules, annual leave records etc.
  • Monthly headcount reporting
  • General Payroll / HR administration and oversee system changes and updates.
Essential requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working at a supervisory level in a payroll function in a medium to large business
  • Have demonstrable understanding of employer payroll, compliance and pension obligations
  • Knowledge of Payroll, HR and Time & Attendance systems
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office Excel
  • Confidential in all matters

  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work in, and adapt to, a rapidly changing environment
Desirable requirements
  • Previous experience of payroll software packages
  • Working knowledge of matters relating to terms and conditions of employment and general employment legislation
  • Experience gained within a medium to large manufacturing or FMCG environment
  • Knowledge of PAMS and North Time Data / Workflow Infinity
  • Gathering, analysing and reporting on key HR data/statistics
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Strong IT skills
